U.S.A.

Sequential pressure drill adapted from the U.S. National Indoor team — earn each letter, then finally play a sideout for the point.

How to run it

  1. 1

Coach throws a 'Joust' ball (lands on top of or close to the net). Team that wins it has 'U' and immediately receives a free ball. Win that = 'US', receive a 2-touch ball. Win = 'USA', receive serve for the actual point. Win the SR ball = 1 point and losing team rotates off. Lose the SR ball = no point, rotate off. Lose at any earlier stage = restart at Joust. Play to 3 points with a time limit.

  2. 2

Coach emphasis: Build the letters. One mistake and you start over.

Why we run it

Sequential pressure drill adapted from the U.S. National Indoor team — earn each letter, then finally play a sideout for the point.

Many of our drills are adapted from the coaching resources at Better at Beach and the FIVB.
